About

I am Thomas Herod, an expressive photographer who first picked up a camera in 1967 in Vietnam. Now I create images to reveal what most people walk past.
Whether I’m photographing a street musician in New Orleans, a rare orchid in bloom, or a child mid-laugh under summer sun, I’m always looking for the quiet, sacred moments hiding in plain sight. My camera is how I listen — to place, to memory, to the soul of a scene. Light is my language.
I work across genres — black and white, infrared, macro, floral, cultural storytelling — because each offers a different way of seeing. But at the heart of it all is the same pursuit: I want viewers to feel something they didn’t expect. Not just admiration, but recognition. A sense that they’ve brushed up against something tender, timeless, and true.
My process is slow, intuitive, and deeply personal. An image may live on my wall for months, evolving as I learn what it’s trying to say. I believe that the ordinary is holy, and that legacy lives in the details — in a gesture, a texture, a slant of light.
Through my work, I invite others to look again. To find meaning in the overlooked. To remember what they didn’t know they’d forgotten.
Because that’s the truth I’m still chasing: that everything matters — if we have the eyes to see it.
